Yesterday, Bobby, Rachel, and I helped Sarah move into her new apartment. I think Twinkie misses her. It feels strange. There’s an emptiness. Not just because we moved most of her stuff about 50 minutes away. “Her” kitchen chair is empty. “Her” side of the loveseat is empty. I put her plastic cup in the dishwasher last night and it won’t be on the counter anymore. Her car isn’t parked in the road in front of our house. She’s not coming in through the front door or playing the piano.
There is still a lot of activity happening here. There are four other young people and their friends coming and going. I cleaned the house and spent 50 minutes cutting up boxes. Tomorrow I’ll go to the dump. And I’ll go to Hannah’s college with her so she can practice driving there before she starts on September 8th. Mary started her second year of high school on Monday. Rachel started her 3rd year of college today. It’s a transition time.
I am planning to do many projects and go on some trips this fall. I hope to write about them as they happen. I also still have much to write about from this summer. I traveled to Rhode Island, Quebec, and to NYC three times. And last week I drove to Foxborough, MA, where I heard a talk and met Joshua Becker from Becoming Minimalist. As usual, I hope to make writing a priority. But first, I need to make sleep my priority. And I’ll text Sarah to let her know we’re thinking of her.
